This is our 3rd annual Tour de Bloc event, and we’re expecting an even bigger turnout this year. It’s also the final local comp of the season, leading to Regionals at Altitude in Hull on March 24th, and Nationals at Rock Jungle Fitness in Edmonton on April 14th/15th.
Important Notes for Competitors:
- Be sure to register by the end of February! Those who register on or before Wednesday, February 29th get the following benefits:
- The price is $45 including HST. Those who register after this date (including those registering on the day of the event) will pay $50 including HST.
- You get a comp T shirt. We order only what we are confident we will need based on early registration, and the chances of picking up a comp shirt on the day of the event are very low unless you register early.
- You get a voucher worth $10 off the price of a 10-visit pass to our gym. Comps bring in a lot of people from further away, who don’t often visit our gym, and for whom membership is not an option. We want to give those people a reason to come a few more times after the comp. The voucher will be valid until the end of April, and the 10-visit pass is good for 1 year from date of purchase, and can be shared with other climbers (e.g. 5 visits each for 2 of you).
We are strongly encouraging you to register early because knowing how many competitors to expect drives how many problems we will set. Also, knowing who will be coming in the Open category will help us set finals problems that properly separate the field.
- Pay attention to the posted schedule! The climbing times for each category are different than in previous years. We have adopted the same schedule used at Coyote Rock Gym for their recent comp. The climbing times are spread out more than in the past because we are expecting a large turnout, and want to avoid over-crowding. We are also running Open Qualifiers earlier in the day, in order to give those competitors more rest before finals, which we think will make for a more exciting final round! It will be a long day, especially for families with competitors in more than one category, but we think over all this schedule makes for a better event:

For those coming from a distance who plan to stay in the area overnight, here is some info about discount hotel rates:
Holiday Inn Express North York is offering discount rates for those attending the comp. You can use the link below, or call the hotel at 416 665-3500 and ask for the Sports Industry Special Rate. This offers a saving of $15-$20 per night, and includes a Full Breakfast Buffet and free parking.

Whats the highest rating the experienced climbers will face for bouldering?

We plan to set 60-70 problems (depending on the registration numbers as we approach the comp). Loosely speaking, Open competitors are expected to be climbing V6 and up. There is some overlap between the categories; the top experienced climbers score higher than the bottom open competitors. You can look at the scores of those in the Experienced and Open categories at past comps for guidance. For example, if you look here:
http://compseason.com/results.comp?id=7
You’ll see that the top finisher in Men’s Experienced had a score of 2764. Divide by 6 (the number of top problems that count toward your score), and you get an average score of 460, meaning problem 46 was in the middle of the top 6 that climber completed. There were 70 problems at that comp.
