So you think indoor rock climbing sounds pretty cool, but you’re not sure how to get started? You have come to the right place! Here is an overview of what goes on in our gym, and how you can join the fun.
Before you start: All those who enter the climbing area (the padded floor) must have a signed waiver form. Minors (those under 18) need to have a Minor Waiver form signed by their parent. Read more about the waivers.
Learning to Climb & Belay:
Whenever anyone climbs on a rope, they need a partner to control the rope for them to keep them safe. The partner takes up the slack in the rope as the climber goes up the wall, and lowers them gently to the padded floor when they’re done. This is called belaying. Before anyone may belay in our gym, they must demonstrate to our staff that they have the skills required. We offer a short, free Belay Test to experienced climbers on their first visit to our gym.
For those new to climbing, we offer a 1-hour Introductory Lesson to get you started. The lesson focuses on the information you need to climb safely and belay your partner. Please call us to book your Introductory Lesson in advance. Read more about Instruction.
Parents arriving with kids to climb for the first time:
If you are thinking of bringing your children to climb, you have a few options as a first-time climber:
• You can boulder with your kids (see Bouldering if you’re not familiar with the term), and perhaps return another time without the kids to take the Introductory Lesson.
• You can book your kids into one of our Weekend Scramble Sessions, which is two hours of belay service.
• If there are two adults, you can take turns, one bouldering with the kids while the other takes the Introductory Lesson
• If your children are mature enough, they can accompany you in the Introductory Lesson as your climber (or take the lesson with you, if they are 13 or older)
Note that we do not typically have extra staff available to provide belay service on demand, so see which of the above options works best for you.

We offer free short technique classes, normally on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 9:00 pm for a half hour. The topics rotate each week, and are intended to help new climbers improve their climbing quickly, as well as meet other people to climb with.
