About Us
PROUD TO BE PART OF THE
DOWNSVIEW PARK SPORTS CENTRE.
Come check out our new gym. We have almost 100 different top-rope routes, with the right level of difficulty for you whether you are a beginner or an experienced climber. We also have about 150 bouldering problems. Climb up our stalactite (suspended from the 36′ ceiling!), or try the chimney or one of the two cracks. See if you can balance on our slacklines!
True North Climbing offers the following recreational and instructional programmes:
Weekend Scramble Sessions:
On Saturdays and Sundays starting at 11:30am, you can drop off your kids (completed Minor Waiver Form in hand if they have not been here before!) for 2 hours of climbing, ending at 1pm. We’ll provide the staff to belay them in groups of 4 or less, as well as a harness and climbing shoes if desired (subject to availability of the small sizes!). Call ahead to book this session to guarantee a place for your children. The cost of each Scramble Session is $35/child includingHST.
Birthday Parties: (not just for kids!)
True North Climbing is a great place for your child’s birthday party! Kids love climbing, whether on ropes, or bouldering. They also love trying out the slacklines. Full details here.
Youth Programmes:
Weekday and Sunday afternoons for children aged 5 and up. Download the flyer for full details.
FREE Technique Classes
Every Monday evening from 7:30 – 8:00 one of our instructors gives a short technique class. The intent is to help new climbers improve their climbing more quickly, and also help build a sense of community within the gym. This can also be a way for climbers on their own to find a climbing partner. Topics include:
- Hold Recognition
- Balance
- Footwork
- Flagging
- Slacklining
- Bouldering Safety
- Resting on a Route
- Dynamic Movement
Check the white board as you enter for the topic for this week, or follow us on Facebook or Twitter for weekly updates.
Lead Classes
The Lead Climbing course is available for those who are proficient at top-rope climbing and are ready for the next level of challenge. The course is available Monday or Wednesday evenings from 6-9pm on 2 consecutive weeks (2 3-hour sessions), and is normally held in groups of 4 climbers. Climbers are expected to provide their own equipment (harness, shoes, lead rope, belay device and locking carabiner). The fee for the class is $150 ($120 for gym members), plus HST. Email us if you want in.
